Reality Check
So I've reached the point in maturity where I really don't give a shit........about much of anything. If it doesn't revolve around my family or my house......nah......not really caring. So the response to my trying to post a sign at work that said "I have a headache, please shhhh, shut up" resulted in them leaving me noise cancellation headphones this morning on my desk.
Silence is golden.
I'm one rich b*tch right now peeps.

Bandaid
I'm ripping the bandaid off slowly........The Man "resigned from his post" today. Seriously that is what he told them when he turned in his resignation and they told him that he didn't have to come back (cause they be cool like that). So bye bye fabrication lab that made my man wear spaceman suits and work 12 hour shifts. Bye Bye to a job that he was completely over. The Man has taken a job in Texas. He starts next week.
He'll be working outdoors doing what he loves and mixing hard labor with brain power. Plus it's in Texas (insert corney Texas song here) cause he freaking loves Texas and misses our time there.
One slight problem.........
The kids and I will be here in Utah.
Cause we bought a house and the market dropped. Cause I have a good job and the kids have school. Cause after four months, they will move than likely reassign him to another state, so we're sitting this move out.
And while I hide in the closet and cry cause after leaving the military I never thought I would have to do this again, I have it nothing like The Man right now.
The final decision was made last night. He typed up his letter and took it in this morning. Two hours later, he was unemployed (amazing how fast you can get that way) with his former lead asking him to holler if there were any more openings at the new company.
He immediately drove to the school and removed our kids from class and took them to Taco Bell where he had a heart to heart. They didn't shed a tear. I'm so proud of my little military brats, they are well trained in the art of separation and moving.
And he is already scheduling flights home to visit.
We can do this. Not only to get out of Utah and back to the livestyle that we want to raise the girls in, but because this is exactly where he wants and needs to be career wise.
And cause he's my stud muffin and I follow his lead. He leads us well.
So peeps, from time to time, check in on me as I might wind up blogging from the depths of my closet on long dark nights, lol. But then again, as usual, I'll be fine. Cause you know, when he is gone, it's my way all the time. I kinda like that. Plus I get to laugh and joke with him all day via email and phone calls and that really brightens things up!

Sweet Freedom
Well yesterday was a good day. I managed to leave my long time temp job with The Man's company with no burnt, crispy bridges....okay, a few were singed but I'll sleep okay with that. I think that came down to two type A personalities with the same job and career ladder. So the Royal household took me out to eat.

What I Do..
Having been blessed to have landed smack dab in my career of choice field upon arrival to the snowy mountains where we now call home, I have been asked exactly what I do. So here is the version fit for public consumption.I find, recruit, interview people for a large company.
Notice that I don't hire, people who have my real big dream job, do that. I am their assistant but I still have a ton to do with the process.
Here is my normal day: Yesterday in fact!
Upon arriving to work, since I work at a large large facility, I park in the boonies and take the shuttle in to the front of my building. (note: be careful when using your ipod during this commute as you'll miss your stop and end up three buildings away thus ensuring that your feet will be hurting before you even get to your desk. Ouch) Yesterday I arrived at work to find breakfast. Yes, breakfast. Someone was cooking pancakes in the office for all of our department. So I grabbed some pancakes and headed to log in to my computer and see what the day has brought me.As we're having a large hiring event next week, I have tons of travel to do, references to check and paperwork to prepare for the arrival of the hopefuls.
Then I have to prepare for the actual event, the presentation. Which is part of my duties. I bring them all in, like a glorious tour guide herding hopeful cattle into a large room (after walking them 1.5 miles from the visitor entrance, not for the faint of heart).
No these aren't garbage cans. These are portable presentations. We fly with these, drag them from building to building, college to college and so forth. My company is the pooh.
Then, I spent all morning double checking paperwork. The folders above contain all of every hopefuls life history and such. I have list upon list upon list. Then I called to verify that everyone on my list had their travel arrangements and reminded them to bring their credentials. Otherwise this would be more leg work for me.
This happy cup and I stop each morning at the spit and shine corner gas station for a full load of Dr. Pepper for only $.62. This lasts me until lunch. No kidding. Little watery by then, but I'm good to go. After lunch, I switch to fat free hot chocolate (cause I'm always freaking cold and we live in the snowy mountains....) until I get home. Then it's sweet tea. Geez, it's a wonder I eat at all. Or have teeth...

Another weekend bites the dust
We started our weekend with a snowy day. As you can tell, it completely repainted the back of the house, funny how living next to a lake will do that. Huh. We managed to keep warm and dry until the sun came out and melted all freaking 3 inches that fell earlier. Still scratching my head over snow, can't believe we actually LIVE here.
Once it was pretty again, we decided to take Princess for a much needed trim. After braving Costco and Wal-Mart. Forget weekly shopping trips, now that I'm working, it's all monthly baby. I could barely close the trunk! My baby looks great with a couple inches off the bottom and a serious bang trim but camera died when Duchess decided to run over it with our buggy.
This is the innocent face she made right before she absconded with the camera and buggy. Stinker. She who refuses to have a haircut in two years. Get her near a beauty chair and you get the look of death and a promise to bite. Sooooooo no trim for Duchess.
Otherwise I did manage to completely (with no help at ALL) organize and clean out my garage. No more Duke boys maneuvers out of windows! I also had to move The Man's truck from one side of the pitiful excuse for a driveway to the other. Since I don't drive standard, this was a 20 minute process however please notice that it is in there straight! Also, ignore that metallic smell of burnt gears while looking at the picture. I'm sure the smell is all part of your imagination!
On a happier note, this is from my meeting on Friday morning. Yes I had to be there early. Yes I had to not eat lunch and then stay late but it was worth it. Why you ask????? Cause I had free food all day. This is the spread for breakfast. Please notice that my usual 32 ounces Big Gulp of Dr. Pepper is nowhere in sight. I actually had water, all day...........are you still there? Get off the floor, it's cold down there. The job is so great I'm wearing bruises from the constant pinching of my flesh. Did I mention that I love this job? Even though they attached the umbilical cord on Friday, with the instructions that yes it even goes to the bathroom with me. Crap! However, once someone actually showed me how a text pager worked, it got easier. However, I work walking between 10 different buildings (in glassed in tunnels, how cool is that, specially in snow!) so I totally got the reasoning behind that when at 3:45 I got a page that read "come to room 1322 in bldg 10 NOW, we have CAKE" Yep, I love it there.

Changes they are ahere....
I started my job today finally. Whew! What a relief to get up at the butt crack of dawn, coax my kids into clothes and spoon feed them breakfast while they are still snoozing at the table. Then put on my "big girl clothes" and go out in the snow and ice for A JOB.It was everything I hoped for and more. Sighhhhhhhhh. I worked like a dog. Getting thrown in is truely the best way and I was thrown all over the place today. Recruiting, hiring processes and lots of meetings. I'm in heaven.
However, I forgot that getting off at 5 and fighting traffic to the kiddo's school and then home again was so exhausting. However, I'm a rocking tough cookie, therefore I passed McD's and came home to make baked chicken for dinner. Yum yum.
But here it is 830 and the kids are in bed and I'm freaking whipped.
Yep, I'm back in the saddle again and I can't wait for tomorrow to start the madness all over again.
As Princess put it, now you can get us a bigger tv mom!
Nice to know my kids understand the important things in life.

Happy Day To Me...
Today was my day. Today I had my interview with The Man's company. Today I left the interview after two hours of four people questioning me thinking I was doomed: Why?After a very intense interview, the big man sums it up with "So what to you think of the interview process?"
Dumb-arse me replies: "Well you gave me enough rope to hang myself....." Silence.... Then I laughed cause, well crap what else could I do...
Surprisingly they laughed to. Then told me that I would know something next week.
Ten minutes down the road I am on the phone with The Man giving all the details of how brilliant I was until I blurted out that stupid comment, when my phone beeped.
I had the job.
I have the job.
I got the job I wanted.
I'm blessed beyond words.
Oh and I rock. :) Stupid comments and all.
Here's my rope.

The Job Sage Continues...
So another week, another day continuing my job hunt. Ahhhh, last week I tried to spare you some of the worst calls, you don't' want the bruises I have from banging my head on the wall after hanging up with some of these people. I swear, I just want a decent job. Please, decent...J-O-B!So tomorrow I have an interview with a lady who wouldn't let me speak at all on the phone. She pulled my resume offline and called me about a job. I didn't call her! However, she kept reminding me how lucky I was to have called her. Uh-okay. I'm lucky. That's me, lucky! However, the job is for a legal department of a company I've seen on the local news lately that is having some ethics issues. Not Enron, but I thought it appropriate. :) So yeah, I left her a voicemail canceling my "lucky" interview. One down....

The sweet sweet ladies at the dear old Mink Farm called me and left me a message (do you see why I screen my calls! Except you, I always answer your call!) reminding me that the job is mine (I've said no twice now) and could I drop by (oh god no!) and see about some paperwork. Yeah, left her a message today too. Sweetly telling her no and then suggesting that we get together for walks sometimes cause she lives in my neighborhood. Crap! But I'll sleep better at night not thinking about the minks. God Bless Them!
Yet another call that I did not answer came from Bambi. Not the deer, the blond girl who thought I'd make a great addition to her company, oh just read here. However, since I have lots of blond friends, I didn't want to insult Jac...opps, somebody by posting a picture here. So enjoy the little forest creature below.
So the main point I'm getting to, slowly, very slowly. The dream job has officially entered my realm. Yes, it is there and I haven't a clue how to make this go any faster. See Tuesday I a final interview with a great company (lots of perks) for good money (woohoo) and sucky hours, yeah I hate that part. I can't really say no to these people if they meet me in the middle.

God Bless the little Minks
Another day, another interview. I'll not bother you with details except to say I will never, ever wear mink ever! A job at the local mink farm can not pay enough, ever, to compensate for their little screams, the sounds of live chickens being ground into food for them or the freaking smell from hell. So I'm believing in God that he will provide me with a good job, where I won't have to pray daily for the little minks, or listen to their screams or watch chicken trucks drive in to unload them at the chipper. Arghhhh. So I have decided to share some of my latest pics with you. My two favorites from my back porch, the view of the mountains, the specks of fresh snow as it falls, ahhhhhhh much better than thinking about minks.

Saga Continues Part 2
Well this morning I went on the most confusing interview in my life. I was up for a corporate travel position where I would just book travel for a company with alot of VPs. Okkkkkkkkkkkay. Sounded good. So off I went looking like $$$$$. Except here is how my interview went (summary of the best parts):Her: Well you would do the travel and in any down time help me...
Me: What do you do here? HR?
Her: Sorta, I just do that plus assisting the big boss, plus plan events and supervise the office staff.
Me: Office Manager?
Her: Not really, just alot of little stuff.
Me: Okkkkkkkay, who are the other office staff
Her: Let me call some in so you can meet them.....(skip past intros)
Me: Is a tight shirt and belly ring required wear? (I swear!)
Her: oh no, we're just really laid back
Me: Why are they all 19?
Her: Well we pick a type of person then train them to do what is needed, like they do filing, answer phones and pick up presents for wives or run them on errands....
Me: What? As in personnal assistants?
Her: Not really....
Me: About the job, what are the benefits? Leave time, pay, insurance?
Her: Not really sure, I'll put that on a list to ask my boss.
Me: Oh is he the one hiring and supervising this position
Her: Oh no, that is me
Me: Yet you don't know exactly what your offering? (extremely confused here)
Her: Not really....we just need some help. I've only done office work for a year, before that I was in xrays but got too much radiation so I had to do something new.
Me: (Thinking: wow, must have been bad at that job too) Oh.....
Her: So it'll be fun having a helper that has like 4 times the experience I do, it'll make my job easier. (yep, she really went there)
Me: No
Her: So when can you start?
Me: No
Her: What is your goal for future growth in the company? (Swear she just skipped over my no and went right on)
Me: To take your job
Her: (laughing hysterically)
Me: I've wasted your time and mine, good luck with your employee hunt. I'll see myself out.
Her: (Calling after me) I'll call you if we choose you for the job....
Me: (hand in air and I hustle to the door)

Ho Hum
Well I have to say that it is very hard to get motivated this week. With The Man gone, I've found every excuse NOT to clean the den up and finish unpacking the office. I'm worthless. However, I did bake alot, lose 2 lbs in spite of that, de-ice my driveway four times and well took alot of baths. See, I've redeemed myself.Except the job thing. Since jobs are few and far between here in the boondocks, I've been looking every morning on local sites and calling a few places until BINGO.... we have an interview. And I'm scared. It is for the one place I never thougth I'd have to visit again. A livestock barn/feed lot.
See growing up, I'd occassionally hang around at the local livestock barn during sale days, basically just to bug everyone while my uncle finished his business. However, some twenty something years later, the smell still invades my nose just thinking about it.
When the sweet OLD (geez) lady called me, I could smell it on the phone. I have issues. The pay is much better than I thought and they have me scheduled for an interview next week. I'm wondering how many old ladies I'll be in competition for to get the job. Hmmmmm.....
Also, will I start smelling like that if I work there? I'm such a wuss. I should be so much cooler than I am.
I'm gonna keep sprinkling out my glorious resume and see what else bites, but now I'm wondering, should I wear boots to my interview? Cause that would be kinda cool.

The Saga Begins
Now that my yummy man has gone across the country to work (I love the new facial hair, sorry about all the pics, I love them! :) I have gotten busy: taking long hot baths, reading my school books (okay and some plum novels too), getting the kiddos in a schedule, cooking home meals, and oh yeah, starting the prospective job hunt. That said, I live in the burbs/boonies. :) I love it though. However unless I want to do some serious commuting, there isn't much around here for my kind of work (get your mind out of the gutter, I'm a business top level admin or office manager). So I got my big girl clothes out, you know they don't consist of elastic waist and flannel or wool pjs, and printed some resumes and took off for town. Town being a generous word for our little communities in the area. I hit the city hall, cause I've done gov/county work before. Hmmm, the office was full of little ole ladies and the HR lady kept putting her hand to her ear, until finally I yelled that I was there about a job. Geez. Then I dropped off an app and a resume for substitute teaching. I have enough credits now to do that too here. Hmmmm, that office was full of little ole ladies too.
My question is: where are all the other middle/younger aged moms and wives? Do they all stay at home with their kids? Does no one in my age group work outside of the home? WOW!
Stay tuned as the "Will she, can she find a job" saga continues. Until then, I'm gonna put my flannels back on and work on my business plan. Yet another paper....geez....

The Golden Ticket
We are blessed. Once again, we spent an evening in pure panic over the contract that has yet to arrive from The Man's new job. We should know better at this point. A friendly phone call came through, Mr. Fed Ex Man is delievering the "Golden Ticket" today. It's highly convenient since I have today off (and tomorrow, I had to burn some leave before I officially leave my job on the 29th). So instead of using my new gift card (thanks fellow employees, for the luncheon and the VISA card) I will be cleaning my house awaiting the precious sound of the doorbell. Yes! We are blessed.
to the single digits tonight, with freaking snow. I'm a notoriously cold person, I live along a coast with balmy tropical breezes and I'll be the one in a sweater. It's obviously going to be a problem keeping myself warm in new place. So, do I get a parka? Do I get fake fur lined, is that warmer? Do I get it a little big size wise so I have room for my three sweatsuits under it? I'm not sure how you go about shopping for a big arse coat!
