What Every Girl Needs:

Everyone should shack up in a hotel room with their man..... but since I'm a little different, I had luggage, I mean kids and luggage ;).

Dave finished his assignment in Northern Oklahoma and was on his way home when he got a call. He needed to reroute and head to North Dakota (poor baby is gonna get freaking cold). So after we headed off to treat and play games at the church with some of Princess's friends/parents we all met up at my house to regroup for a trip to the local Haunted Barn.
Except my phone rang. And he said, get rid of everyone and pack your bags. I got a hotel room in Dallas, be there or be square. And we ain't square in this family peeps. (okay, I'm square normally, but he really brings out the outlaw in me) So we got rid of everyone (they were so cool about it, told me to go to my man) and we packed our crap. Dropped Murphy off at the plush amazingly cool doggie daycare place on our run through Houston and headed North to THE BIG D.
The best part of our entire trip was getting there an hour ahead of him. We had this amazing room with a parent's suite which gave us our own bedroom and the kids in their own area, HELLO mommy was so on board with that. But seriously, we dropped our bags and ran to the indoor pool. Which means Dave gets there and had to work hard to convince the sweet old man at the front desk to give him our room number and room key. Ummmm the room was in HIS name too, hysterical. Sweet old man was convinced that he was protecting me and the girls, lol. Nice to know he was trying to keep that hot studmuffin out of my room, but really. So finally instead of calling to say he was here, he burst into the poolhouse making my day. The room just lights up when he pops in smiling. Sigh.........
We watched tv, pillow fought all over the place, ate dinner together like a normal family, and just really enjoyed our 24 hours together. I got to snuggle finally and since he's used to close quarters didn't even get mad when I hogged the entire bed, woohoo.

Although in my rush out the door, I forgot my jewelry. The ever-present pearl earrings and my wedding rings. Opps. His response was at dinner when he threatened to loudly tell the hostess to seat us in the back corner since he wasn't there with his wife and he was quite known in this area of town. The turd, luckily we had kids so he couldn't majorly embarrass my arse. I might not get so lucky next time. He's gonna end up tattoo-ing those damn rings to my forehead. Although after 14 years, I'm pretty sure they are already tattoo-ed somewhere up there.....

So then he packed me into my car, and I cried all the way to the Dallas city limits sign.

I'm such a pansy.

Road Trip 3002

So I flew last week into SLC to go about the process of moving my household goodies. Dave was absolutely tied up with his new company so it was up to me. Since the babies were already scheduled for church camp with their grandparents it was time for me to move and move quick.

So I flew into SLC (I think I said that already didn't I?) But stupid me booked myself on the 6ish am flight and driving from the lake is a several hour trip so I didn't get myself any sleep at all. But the real drama came when my frugal nature had an argument with my packing choices.

You see, you have to pay for luggage checked now. Are you kidding me? Like these people aren't ripping the crap out of us already....I digress, sorry. So I realized that I couldn't check both my gun and my clothing considering my carryon was my laptop bag containing all the homework I needed to accomplish during the move.

So what would any good southern girl do?

I went with the gun.

And flew to SLC with my checked gun and no clothes.

Because honestly, I wouldn't be caught dead without my gun during a cross country move. There is no way on earth I was willing to do that.

So I was going naked.

I had the clothes on my back and that's it.

(Thank you mother for loaning me clothes and taking me for shorts/shirts!)

So I was sleeping walking at the point Dave dropped me off at the airport at 4 am. And since noone was working yet, I carried my gun safe upstairs to ask someone in security how to check it since the regulations constantly change.

The sleepy TSA guy smiled so sweet at the security checkpoint and asked what I was carrying, when I said handgun, he freaked. OMGawd did he freak. He yelled at me that I wasn't allowed to bring a gun upstairs and all the TSA people at the checkpoint got a nice little wakeup as I screamed back at him that I didn't know and how the hell was I to ask when nobody was downstairs but the guy cleaning the floors who didn't speak English.....it was entertaining to say the least.

They calmed down when I flipped it upside down and shook it to show them it was all safely locked up and promised them it was unloaded then directed me to where I needed to go and get it checked.

So finally I got my gun checked and loaded onto the plane. I refused to give up my aisle seat to a grumpy arse lady and then got a look that promptly told me she hoped I fried in hell....I smiled and gave her a thumbs up cause I believe in sharing the love.

Laying over in Denver was fun, especially when I realized that they had a smoking lounge. Hello, then after a couple smokes and a coke I realize I have 10 minutes to make it 10 gates or the plane would leave without me.

Turns out, I should really wear my glasses in situations like this. Turns out I got in at gate 31 and flew out of 91.....why did I read that as gate 41? Interesting. So yeah, I ran and I ran like a bad guy in the movies, taking out little old ladies with my laptop bag, hopped over several carry ons left in the aisle while their owners ordered lattes (really could have used a latte at this point) and finally because I can not lie, I rounded a corner and ran smack into a pilot who was apparently running late too cause we went down like two freight trains meeting in a tunnel. OMGawd....this wouldn't be quite so bad except he was like old and little and I totally was horrible and jumped off taking off leaving him in the middle of the corridor, cause I suck. Sorry little pilot man, I was late...........really really late and I suck.

I made it to the plane and boarded last. Figures. Then realized my seat was the last row, aisle seat on a small plane.

Like small as in "pack of gum with wings".

Seat didn't recline and my seat mate was apparently a BYU football player. Huge young guy.

So I get settled and then promptly turn to mr. football man and told him in my best stern mother voice that he was in my seat and frankly I paid for my WHOLE seat so he needed to hug the window and put the armrest down.

He balked. So I gave him the look and then before I could speak a very sweet adorable flight attendent totally put him in his place, quoting the FAA regulations for the armrest. So I got my seat and football man went to sleep, only drooling a little. I really envy people who can totally put themselves to sleep asap like that.

Anywho, so we get settled and then the little adorable flight attentant guy totally put the seat down and snuggled up to me. Cause you see, the flight attentent seat was a fold down from the back of the bathroom door making the last row actually 5 seats wide. And after I caught him reading the new Janet Evanovich over my shoulder, he introduced himself and announced that he was my new gay. I was thrilled, we shared my book, ate M&M's, talked shoes and promptly had us a great time the whole flight. It was a fab time and got my mind off the wildly small plane.

I landed in SLC and there was my amazingly great bestest friend in the world to welcome me back to hell. Looking like a million bucks since we both left our old company, I was so excited to have some girl time.

We had a great lunch, we totally acted up and talked about everything under the sun. We looked at shoes. We went to the gun range and blew the other girls away cause we some serious pistol packing mommas. Then we went shopping somewhere that I swore I won't put on my blog....but it was her idea and I didn't buy a thing, thank you very much. Almost, but didn't. And when she dropped me off to my momma and daddy, I was so glad to catch up.

Then at 7 pm I shut down and literally fell asleep in a blink which is so not me. I slept for 12 straight hours too, which is also not me.

The next day was all packing.

My daddy picked up our truck. My momma and I loaded all my house from that storage unit into that Penske truck in 4 hours. The three pieces we couldn't move wound up being the easiest when their friend showed up with a truck that had a hydrolic lift. OMGawd, I gotta buy one of them things. Awesome!

So when it was all said and done, Daddy and I pulled out of SLC less than 48 hours after I arrived driving the Penske truck to Texas.

Step 1 was complete.

And you might have wondered why I didn't make time to blog....cause we all know I blog just about everything. lol

Step 2 tomorrow, my fingers are tired.

Internet, House Stuff and What Exactly Is A Best Friend?

Liftoff.....I have internet peeps. In the new house. Beware!

Also while internet man was bringing that blessing, the UPS delievered my "incredibly cheap, luxury bedding" I got for my new bed from that little internet secret place where I get all my linens extremely cheap. Oh it was a glorious moment. I have the curtains hung (cause I didn't get matching curtains last time and could never find the right ones to match) and the bedspread smoothed out, it looks very bed and breakfast in there right now.

But the highlight of my day came while working on a paper for school while listening to Sex and The City on disc in my computer this morning. Anyone watched session 2 lately? Cause honestly, if you want to know the meaning of "What Exactly is a Best Friend?" you need to experience this moment.

This is a girls' blog and I keep it real, so I have to tell you....after this overheard conversation between my 4 fav girls, I totally shouted out loud...

"That is what a best friend is all about"!!!!!!!

Carrie: I need help, it's embarrassing but I got a new diaphragm and it's stuck. Now listen, I'm either gonna have to make an emergency visit to my gynecologist or one of you is gonna have to give me a hand.

Samantha: (pointing to the bathroom) GO! .... And I just had my nails done......(sigh)....you are so buying me dinner.

So peeps, I know it's a little personal but can you count the number of friends who'd slug back a martini and then go after a stuck diaphragm for you? Those are your true friends.....call one of them up and tell'em you love'em and you'd help a girl out too.

Send Help

My husband's job with the new company got pushed back till next Tuesday as his start date, so we have a week with daddy. Hence, no blogging. The man has this fascinating ability to keep me far away from my computer. It's a gift, a talent...almost like the way Princess can burp like a man without warning and rattle windows, a talent.

But with all this Dave time, I had no choice but to drag my butt into the gym yesterday afternoon to start my workout. It was a pitiful thing, because before I had to go we spent the morning gutting our rv of clothes we don't wear and things we don't need. We had two huge bags for Goodwill, go us. However it was during this purge that Dave got a look at my clothes. I really meant it when I said I kept it lean. A former clothes horse, I have the following clothes:

1 pair of jeans
1 pair jean capris
1 pair cargo shorts
1 pair running shorts, not fit for public consumption as they show my butt when I bend over

1 pair hiking boots
2 pairs flip flops

2 hoodies, cause I'm always cold
6 tshirts of various styles, shapes, colors
2 tank tops
2 church shirts to wear with jeans to church

That is it.It's no wonder why my clothes all fit in one little cabinet and one little mini closet but he realized that I have no gym clothes. Now before about 5 years ago when I'd hit up the MCRD gym everyday after work, I wore old shorts and t's to the gym. This time, he drug me to Academy and put me in a dressing room with about 600 bucks worth of clothes to try on. WHY is exercise clothes so expensive? So I tried it all on and said no. I got one pair of cheapy workout capris, one pair of biker shorts (ohhh like I wore on drill team forever ago) and another pair of those nylon runner shorts oh and a new sports bra. That's it. I'm wearing my tshirts and I'm not toughing it out. Although I did get actual sneakers too. But then it was torture time. I hit the gym.

And was promptly lost. Intimidated and self-conscious. I had a little list from Dave of what to do. So I did my mile on the treadmill and then I got a little lost in the machines looking for what I was suppose to do. So after all is said and done, I spent an hour and 15 minutes working out and 45 in the shower, go me.

But I get home and he starts banging his head on the wall. I was suppose to do arms chest yesterday and inadvertently did back, using all the wrong machines. Hopeless. And I can't move properly this morning.

And I woke up sore and starting this blog post for him to come hopping in from his 5 am workout this morning. And as I sit all shriveled up in pain, he sweetly hugs me and tells me to get dressed...so I'm hurrying now.

Cause he got me 5 sessions with a trainer, beginning at 9. I'm suppose to look for the trainer who is huge with an afro.

OMGAWD....could someone pray for me.

I gotta hurry and leave. So someone can kill me this morning, cause my husband paid them to.

Why I Carry A Gun...

My husband recently received an email which perfectly sums up why I carry a small lightweight Ruger in my purse or on my person (I prefer the ankle holster unless I'm in shorts then it fits in my cargo pockets). Regardless of the laws (even though I am legally authorized to carry, picture id included), I carry for one simple reason...

To Not Be Forced.

Reason or force is how people get things done. Because I carry a gun, you can't force me, you have to reason with me. I'm leveling my playing field. If you're interested, read the email below.

**Borrowed**

God created men, Sam Colt made them equal . . .
Interesting take and one you don't hear much...

As the Supreme Court hears arguments for and against the Chicago gun
ban, I offer this letter (written by a Marine) that places the proper
perspective on what the gun means to a civilized society...

The Gun is Civilization
by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret)

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and
force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of
either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding
under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those
two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact
through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social
interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is
the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use
reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your
threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on
equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal
footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal
footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun
removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a
potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad
force equations. These are the people who think that we'd be more
civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm
makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course,
is only true if the mugger's potential victims are mostly disarmed
either by choice or by legislative fiat--it has no validity when most
of a mugger's potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the
young, the strong, and the many, and that's the exact opposite of a
civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a
successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force
monopoly.

Then there's the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal
that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is
fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are
won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on
the loser.

People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don't constitute
lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come
out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes
lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not
the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.

The gun is the only weapon that's as lethal in the hands of an
octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply
wouldn't work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn't both lethal
and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight,
but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means
that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm
afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the
actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the
actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the
equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Yet More Random...This Is My Life

I'll go ahead and apologize now, but seriously life around here is random random random. But frankly, I'll take it!

So a beautiful new facet, a new air filter cover and ant bait to fix our tiny little visitor problem. Because my husband is the shiznik peeps. I can't say enough about this man of mine, I so heart him. Plus he got him a big ole envelope with his national crane licenses in it so he be nationally legal. Collecting certs and becoming a man of all oil trades, go baby go.

My kids are fixated on the idea that their daddy needs to make a video and try out for Survivor. Because it's our favorite tv show, we have a seriously small life circle peeps. Anywho, they are all about the daddy doing this. They also like the idea of Daddy and Uncle J trying out for Amazing Race. Both of the boys are hunters, can live off the land, and frankly they take no prisoners. Their best features? They have the driest sense of humor. I personally think that Dave would rock at either but he swears his lack of people "patience" is what would have him kicked off either show. They keep bugging him with video ideas, so far he is resisting. He may have a point.

Because I have the horrible habit of sharing gross things, I have to tell you this. When I was removing my AC filter out of the ceiling to measure it for a replacement I had children under foot and a dog running circle around me cause he was afraid we were leaving without him and Dave was attempting to get us out the door and get this pony show on the road when it happened. I pulled it down and then I went into panic mode. Cause peeps we live in a travel trailer RV, it's small and compact and it's mobile right.......so I literally threw my children out of it, sending them to the car as to not witness the corpse. Dave thought I'd lost my mind but I drug him over to witness and to remove it. There in the AC vent was the corpse of a green little cute lizard. Not only a corpse but it was stuck hanging upside down, it's little head flung back, tongue out to the side and it's two little lizard hands flung out to the side.

Now, to fully understand my hysteria, you have to know that on our nature hike last weekend we ran across a similar little green lizard on a tree. Duchess ran over to "talk to the Geico lizard" and when it scampered away, she yelled at it "wait I can save you money in 15 minutes".

So seeing a replica of the Geico lizard hanging in my AC unit freaked me out. Little sucker was hanging there like "oh man, I almost got in". Dave removed the corpse and with no ceremony tossed him in the yard. Other than a few smirks in my direction it wasn't mentioned again.

Until we were watching Tombstone on TNT earlier when a Geico commercial came on and the cute talking lizard got sucked up a mail slot. I literally gagged and Dave could barely choke out "maybe that's how he got up there". I have this horrible feeling that I will see this little guy in my sleep tonight.

URGH........

I'm no daisy, no daisy at all.

However amusing I am to my sweet husband, he too manages to do things that amuse the hell out of me. Today I realized that the man has "errand ADD". He, like most guys, will stop and go get supplies in the middle of a project. Today whilst working on my leaky faucet he headed out to grab a replacement by himself, us girls stayed behind to get some stuff done. With the water turned off, we waited for his return. And we waited and waited and waited.....and he calls... turns out the place where he went to grab a replacement was down the road from a shop his buddy recommended. It turns out it was a good shop, where we'd get a great deal on tinting his windows. So he came home a couple hours later, with a new faucet and a gorgeous tint job on his truck. And an appointment for my car on Tuesday to get the same. How have we managed to go this long without tinting my windows? I've been driving my car for four years and I'm finally getting tint. I'm excited.

And if I don't stop watching "The Office" on netflix and blogging I'm never gonna get this dang brief written ....

Randon is as Random does:

So the other day I bought the cutest shirt. I love it, I get strange looks but I think it really suits my personality....

Now that being said, I'm sitting here typing this wearing a yellow shirt of mine that I adore even though yellow makes me look like a bird flu victim on crack...but I love it. Let's revisit a Utah memory to see it in "person"....
"Country Girls Get Dirty Too" it's my 4x4-ing shirt. And in Utah it was constantly raising eyebrows which is probably why I wore it so often. Cause speaking of random, this shirt came to mind when a friend told me she was attending a women's show in Utah that was showing women of Utah how to dress appropriately. Hmmmm, appropriately...... yeah we know... cleavage is illegal....got it. Lived it for 3 years so this is probably why my current bathing suit looks like I stepped out of 1930. I really want to smack myself upside the head for that one.
And another reason why this photo from last summer is dated....I cut all my hair off after moving to Texas at Christmas. Rv-ing with really long hair was just not easy. That said, I can officially say that after my surgery late last year, I needed a couple big changes.....which is exactly what they say don't do after a life changing event, but pooh pooh on them, I thrive on change. Hence rv and short hair. Now you and I probaby see short hair as something completely different than me. I'm talking right below the shoulders....I bet your thinking tinkerbell........so, stop that. And thanks to Texas humidity, after letting it airdry I look like I tripped over something and stuck my head in a light socket, girl has got some tall, full, curly hair these days....geez.......but my straightener trips the breaker everytime so I'm all natural around here these days. I ain't winning no beauty pagents peeps.
Now, where was I going with this? Hmmmm, I forgot.

Teacher?

Today was a classic homeschooling issue for me....who's the teacher?

Duchess was working on phonics, specifically blended sounds in big words. Words such as conscience, exhibition, shark, direction, shampoo and smash. Four pages of such words. The goal was to cut out all the pictures and match them to the words after tracing and writting the words. She cut them all out and put them in tidy, very OCD rows.

Then she sounded each out (some with a little help) and promptly matched up the words.

Until she got to smash.....to fully appreciate this conversation please note that my seven year old has quite the vocab. Seriously, between her mimi and don-don and myself, we constantly challenge her with big words so when she uses them sometimes out of the blue in that baby voice, it surprises me.

"Mom, smash is not a word."

"Yes it is honey"

"Let me borrow the computer, I'm gonna look it up. It's not a word mommy."

Me currently on Facebook says "no, it's a word honey."

"Show me smash then"

Me demostrates "smash-ing" a bug with my hand.

"That is not smash."

Me exhausted with this already, gently pushes the correct picture towards her to tape to the page.....

"That is not a picture of your word, smash"

Me trying not to lose my temper, "yes honey it is"

"No mommy, that is a man destroying a computer with a tireiron"

(speechless) me turning picture around to study tiny little picture...... "that is not a tireiron"

"Yes it is mommy, you use it to fix your car.....unless you call the fixit man like when you locked your keys in the car"

(sigh) "he's smash-ing the computer honey, it counts"

"No mommy he is destroying the computer. Smash is not a word"

"Love for the love of Christ, fine - "

(interrupts Duchess) "yes cause Easter is this Sunday"

She wins.

I got schooled by the 7 year old.

A Tale for All Parents

So we left Texas in the late evening, intent on driving straight through to Oklahoma to visit my inlaws and our favorite lake. So we did just that. Murphy napped, the kids watched tv and I read by flashlight (don't hate on me, I have to read when I can) and Dave drove. It was quite uneventful until we hit Muskogee, Ok.

Then I had to call up my bank and make sure I had enough cash on hand to bail out my husband.

Cause I was just sure that he was gonna:

A. Kill someone with his bare hands

or

B. Shoot them point blank between the eyes with his gun that is always in his waistband

And frankly I was all for either.

See we hit up a truckstop in the wee wee hours of the morning, before the sun was up...when bakers are just yawning over that first batch of donuts.

Princess needed to pee and Dave jumped out to take her in. The place was sparse. So in they go into their respective bathrooms. Upon exiting, Princess was waiting on Dave. This never happens, he always beats up "seaters" out. So on the way to the truck, out the front door they come and he asks her why. She says she'll tell him in the truck.

Stop. They stop in the parking lot. And I watch from the truck as he goes from sweet concerned dad to super pissed off short tempered cowboy I married in zero to nothing flat.

Oh boy, here we go. I release my seatbelt and go to open the door. Intent on heading off whatever storm is coming, cause that is my job as wife.

But Princess comes running over as he goes storming back in the store and tells me:

A guy came in the womens bathroom while she was in there and went into the stall next to her.

She hurried up and left without washing her hands, sorry mom.

I climbed back into the truck with my kids and sat.

Waiting on the flashing lights, I would put up bail in a heartbeat.

However, the wait was killing me and so I locked the kids in and popped my head into the store cautiously to see what the holdup on killing someone was. Seriously, we had to get to the lake. Kill him and move on.

But as I stuck my head in, Dave looks back and nods to the truck. So I went back. To wait and watch through the windows.

Finally Dave comes out and finishes talking with one of the store clerks. Nods then gets into the truck. No lights, no police, no gunshots, no anything.

Huh?

He gets onto the highway before he speaks. He went in, stood guard outside the bathroom but noone came out. So he grabbed one of the pimply clerks and tells him that a man went into the womens bathroom. Kid actually laughed and said it wouldn't surprise him. Till he gets a good look at Dave's face and when Dave told him that his eleven year old daughter was in there, then things changed. The clerks went and checked the security cameras.

Turns out, my kid was right.

Kinda

I very very manish looking trucker with a deep heavy voice did go into the womens bathroom.

SHE did look like a man, talk like a man but well............she wasn't a man.

Just a burly old trucker lady.

So now bloodshed.

But was so proud of how my kid handled it!

And pleased to get back on the road. Glad that Dave's first arrest wasn't in front of our kids. lol

Mercy

Really there is nothing like having a computer on the fritz, and trying to fix it yourself and finding some pics you haven't seen in YEARS.... seriously.....so Lord have mercy on my soul but these gave me the laugh I really needed tonight. more to come tomorrow....

Our first real date: seriously, his grandmother was taking a pic of him and he yanked me into the photo which explains my very strange posture......I look like an alien standing there

So my grandmother used to do glamour shots and makeup, so at 14 (YES! 14!) this was my glamour shot. I checked the dates, I'm positive I was 14.

And this is what happens when I get bored and Dave went on deployment, fire engine red hair with a huge blonde streak and red lipstick. This was me actually just home from my job which required me to represent my attorney at the courthouse when he wasn't able to be there. SOOOOO professional.
Now I've laughed, and it hurt.

Really? Seriously?

Is this really what we as a nation have come to stand for?

Please take a moment of your day to read this article.

As a military family (no longer active duty) I must say this sickened me this morning. For a country that was built upon God (in God we trust, ring a bell?) this is what we have allowed. We have allowed politicians to go this far. It's bad enough that prayer and Jesus are no longer allowed in schools (although the LDS prophet is allowed in my kids' school) but are we as a nation determined to erase him from our very sight? I have seen this cross in person and let me tell you, it's a beautiful sight on the horizon. A beautiful tribute to the service of our military hereos present and past. Please remember this today.........please......

America is at the mall, on the phone and texting.....but our military is at war. Stand behind them or get your ass in front of them on the lines.

Have a blessed day.

Frustrated but honored to be an American,

Walking on Faith

It's not easy to blindside me.

Over the years my optimism has been dwindling. I tend to look for the worst possible thing/trait/route at from the start now. I hate that. But I struggle to see my glass as half full.

Got blindsided. My basket is full and I'm worried about dropping an egg or two, or dozen.

I keep thinking that the Lord will show me the path we need to be on, especially since the new year we've had one blow after another. Yet, just when I throw my hands in the air and kick a wall thinking that I've hit my limit........another blow.

July has been a doosey of a month.

Princess is having surgery next Monday. Nothing too big just worried about possible complications with her eardrums (she's having her tonsils removed). The hard part was the quickness with how necessary the surgery was. Poor baby. Good news, I have insurance through my job and this is the first time I've really had to depend on it for something other than a doc visit and I must say, I'm not impressed with it. Damn people, with what this surgery is costing me I'm wondering why I pay premiums at all? Don't get me started on insurance outside of the military, I will explode.

I have no daycare as of yesterday. Things went down beyond my control (which I utterly hate, OCD much?) and I lost my shit. I wish I was kidding, but I was a cooked goose yesterday. Went so far to scream "F*ck This" in the middle of my conservative, LDS workplace. Dear God. Yeah, you read that right, I lost it.

But hitting a brick wall and crumbling has its own rewards. The Lord stepped in not 3 hours after I hit my knees at my desk and just gave it up. Cause I couldn't carry it, couldn't fix it, couldn't think. I live in the freaking boonies. I compute to work.......yet there are very very very few daycare options out here. Women with kids stay home. Period. Yet 3 hours after my little mini-nervous-breakdown the Lord gave me a really really good fix.

The kids will be spending the next three months with the photo elusive retired cop stepdad of mine. Cause honestly, there are few few people I trust with them more than daddy. He'll come over to my house and hang with them so they can play outside and etc. It never occurred to me until I looked at his face when he opened the door and gave me a hug. I slept just fine last night.

Dave is testing tomorrow for his certs that will allow him to accept a perm position with that company (he's been contract) which means benefits, more traveling and stability for him. He's worked his butt off and he's doing so well.

Wish I could say the same.

Feeling like a spectator in my own life right now.

But my glass is half full.........

And I am on level 7 of Mafia Wars, which kicks arse considering I just started "killing" last night. Not bad..........not bad.

I Can So See This....

So on facebook I took a "which decade fits you best" quiz. Cause I have no life.
And frankly I was super excited to get.......the 1940's!
Yeah baby, this totally works.
"You are the ultimate romantic at heart. You put a high priority on true love, patriotism, and dedication to honor and duty. Whether it be serving your country or serving your family, you have a very hard work-ethic balanced out by your whimsical, dreamy heart. You are willing to take risks, go where no one has gone before, and you have a sense of pride in everything you do. Just as you are in touch with your inner beauty, you also give just the right amount of focus on your outer beauty-- standing out with the latest fashions and getting in touch with your sensual side. Your sexiness is not scandalous but rather classy and poised. You are the envy of those around you because no matter how much tough work you have to do, you keep a smile and look good while doing it."
Now if only I could look like that, damn.......gonna stop eating and force myself to exercise.
Then buy some thigh highs.

Heard Today...Bang Head Here

**better to be running around trying to book rooms last minute for strays than trying to keep people employed in this economy.....

**Right out the poop wazoo... (WTF? Kindergarten is an horrible influence)

**If there is no water and I used the potty, did it not flush it away (SAVE ME!)

**Do not call me up and tell me "I have bad news and then tell me you had to get new contacts cause your allergic to silicon and therefore can't ever have new boobs...." that is NOT bad news...

**He didn't make it....can you clean that up mom?

**I have no homework, sweet more time to watch tv and play on your computer!

These pretty much hit the highlights of my day. Enjoy.

opps

This morning work was interrupted when I got a phone call from the fence guys, who were finalizing my posts, concrete and all that jazz.

Opps

What do you mean opps? Well it seems while laying the posts along the back prop line they hit a sprinkler line and destroyed it with the mechanical digger. Not cool, but before I could have a freak out, I remember.......

I don't have sprinklers or grass in the backyard yet.

WTF?

Turns out the neighbor behind me has her sprinkler lines running on my side of the property line.

Can you imagine how that conversation went?

Hee hee snort snort gasp

Nervous

So while completing the rest of my weekly work for BioII, cause I'm a go-getter like that, I read one of the comments posted by another student.

"My goal is to pass this class this time, it's getting expensive"

OMGawd.......

I want to take her under my wing and sing silly songs while braiding her hair.

Especially since she posted her bio on the wrong week, in a discussion forum about the elimination of microorganisms in food.

Please send prayers to Ohio, she needs them.

Sub par to .....

The rental car company called me today. They quickly explained that they wanted to "swap" my little sub par rental with something else, "cause we sold that car".

(Silence)

You sold that piece of crap? (His silence)

So an hour later I get a call that they are in my office lobby awaiting to run me down and switch cars.

So I got a station wagon.............

Peeps, just in case you don't know me by now, I have never been nor will I ever be a station wagon kind of girl........no offense if you are, it's all cool. For you, not for me.

So I quickly called to check on Jade and turns out she'll be ready tonight or tomorrow.

THANK YOU JESUS........

Because you have NO idea how my crap I'm gonna catch from my husband if I pull up in a station wagon......

*** I have my Jade back..................heaven.

True Love

Do you ever wonder how much someone might truly love you? Seriously ponder the thought?

Well I have no doubts at all about the Photo-Elusive-Step-Dad of mine.

While chatting with my mother earlier on the phone, I was hosing off my porch and generally prepping my front porch for cold weather when I mentioned that I wanted a fence to sink above my log so that I could drap it with honeysuckle come spring.

She immediately handed to phone to the Photo-Elusive-Step-Dad who reminded me that he was venturing home to Louisiana next month for hunting season at his camp........oh baby......

So I asked him to please stop at any tinkers he passes back home in the woods and see if he could come across a piece of wrought iron decorative fencing or even a gate. As much or as little (preferably much) as possible. I would be a complete person if he succeeded.

He asked exactly what I was looking for........so I told him, you know something old from back home that looks like it belongs on a little old lady's yard or better yet an old cemetary.

He said he'd stop and check out the tinkers he passed but it all else failed, he knew of an old graveyard from the 1700's back in the woods where they might be pieces of fence still standing.

Be still my heart.

This is true love.

And hopefully something like this from my home parish or surrounding areas will be gracing my backyard come spring. Wrapped lovingly in honeysuckle, a little piece of illegal Louisiana beauty keeping Utah bearable.........

True love people.

Wobbling......

I hate wobbling. Yet here I am. I'm not on steady ground lately, and I noticed that I've avoided posting about it, so I'm addressing my cowardly side and hey, life is too short. And I can't afford therapy so here you go.......mental purging to commence.

1. I'm a nervous wreck about school. I was accepted into my new program, but I'm still awaiting my new schedule. School starts back on Oct 2nd. They better hurry. I've called my advisor so often, I think he is screening now. He obviously doesn't like OCD students assigned to him.

2. I'm a nervous wreck about school. I petitioned to change my major from Business Administration to Healthcare Management. Mainly because I've done business.......oh have I done business. I've been a legal secretary, I've been a deputy for a court, I've been the exe admin for a chamber of commerce, I've been a branch manager for the government, I've been a sales coordinator for a large surfwear company, and I'm stuck on the idea that once I finally get that elusive degree, well I'll end up somebody's admin, yet with a degree. Nope, I wanta be something different when I grow up. So I'm switching to a field I've never ever had the ability to work in, mainly cause I hate blood. Healthcare. But business.........does that make sense to anyone but me?

3. I'm a nervous wreck about school. I started my school career back oh about 14 years ago majoring in pre-law. Then I took a break and The Man and I sorta just went about things bass ackwards. Marriage, kids, military, then school. Woohoo, we rock! So a part of me is wondering why I didn't just buckle down somewhere along the way, you know in Texas, or Chicago, or San Diego or Oklahoma and just do it. So now I'm determined. And it's not purty when I'm determined.

4 . I'm a nervous wreck about school. Since I chose a private school with a good rep to finish my degree 95% online (i'll have to do my internship in state, eventually) I have to pay private school prices, OMG, my cheap frugal arse can't take it. But I am going to do this right, so in addition to student aid, I'm going out of pocket this year for tuition. Oh Lord, have pity on me now.

5. My backyard is still not done. That is about all I'm gonna say on that, as I love The Man dearly and bless his heart, it's not his fault it's hunting season or that he has midterms. But the damn yard is still dirt. With a fire pit, but dirt. With no sprinklers in sight, or a fence, or a deck....

6. Once again feeling the oddball at work, so I spend 90% of my day working away listening to my ipod or old tv show reruns on the computer. I've never been so productive. The problem is that I allow myself to worry about something I can't and wouldn't change if I could. Perception. Mainly the perception others have of me. Obviously I have an issue there but I worked really hard to become the person I am, so hang it.

7. Why can't anyone else smell Murphy in my house? Everyone assures me that his presence doesn't make my house smell....but I've just spent the last hour digging out my auto scent sprayers and hanging a few discreetly around the house. Hello morning rain. You smell lovely, with the slight undertone of dog. Damnit.

8. Being hairy......TMI I know but come on.....I can never remember to shave my legs. It's like I have an addiction to the oblivious. I don't notice it till I'm sitting on the couch in my comfy pjs and The Man goes to rub my legs, almost without noticing it. Until he jerks it back, and starts in with the monkey jokes. This could give a girl a complex. So in addition to being perpetually short, I'm also perpetually hairy. Hey, keeping it real here, sorry.

9. Feet........at 31 (yep, proud of those laugh lines baby) my feet are falling apart. I soak the bastards like an old lady at least once a week. I'm constantly rubbing lotion into them, they are still falling apart. I mention it to my doc and *poof* I have an answer. Heels. Seems since I've spent the last 13 years (minus a year for each kid) I've spent 5 days a week, 9 plus hours a day on my feet, in 3 inch heels. And now my feet only hurt when I wear flats, or tennis shoes, or even no heeled boots. I'm like Mrs. Flora (except not glamorous), a wonderful glamorous teacher I once had who wore heels everywhere for the same reason. She even gardened in her heels. At 5'2", okay crap, 5'1.5" I'm destined to wear heels for the rest of my life. I'll be that little old lady in the not matching clothes waddling down main street teetering on her heels, flipping you the finger for driving too fast or having your music up to loud. God help us all.

10. It's late and I have no idea what to cook. They're getting sandwiches and they'll like it. Although I'd probably give them ice cream too if they asked.

Sigh............strangely I feel better!
